  • What is the difference between drivers education and drivers training? Drivers education is the studying of the rules and regulations in a formal classroom or on-line study. Drivers training is in-car instruction.
  • Your school is called Lake-Mendo. Are you giving lessons in Mendocino County? At the moment, we are only servicing Lake County but, depending on demand, we may expand into the Ukiah area.
  • Can you give me lessons using my personal car? No. A DMV licensed instructor has to use a vehicle  authorized by the DMV. The car must have an instructor’s brake, pass an official inspection, and carry special driving school insurance.
  • Do you give lessons for manual cars? No. The car for instruction would have to have dual clutch, brake, and accelerator. One for the driver, one for the instructor. There is usually not enough demand for manual instruction to make it economically viable for a school to invest in a dual controlled manual.
  • Are you bonded? Yes. Any driving school authorized by the DMV must carry a $10,000 surety bond.
  • Can someone ride along in the car during my lesson? We allow parents, legal guardians, or the person who will be helping you learn how to drive to accompany you during your lesson. If the person is not your parent or legal guardian, then they must show proof of having a California drivers license and be 25 or older. We have a strict policy that they must remain quiet and to not interject instructions; and no tapping away on a laptop. Our vehicle has a large backseat making this ride along extremely comfortable. Most students usually prefer to not have someone in the backseat, but parents/guardians can gain good insight as to how to teach and coach their student driver by observing.
