Hello!
About the Instructor for Lake-Mendo Driving School
My name is Sharon Michaels and I am the owner of Lake-Mendo Driving School and instructor for the school. I have taught hundreds of students of all different ages and from many different ethnic backgrounds for thousands of hours. My teaching experience started in the San Francisco Peninsula area with the largest driving school in California.
While teaching in the hectic, congested, high paced environment of the Bay Area, I encountered over and over again the numerous difficult and dangerous events that can occur when students are learning how to drive. Although driving in Lake County and Mendocino County is nothing like the Bay Area, it still requires the need for the defensive driving skills of awareness and concentration. I will incorporate the same defensive driving skills needed to drive a busy urban area into your lessons to help you be a safe driver.
My personal driving experience includes a few decades of driving all the states west of the Rockies and a variety of vehicles including manuals, trucks, and campers. I like to drive and I hope you will, too.
My Life in Lake County
Lake County has been my home for the past ten years. I have driven all over Lake County and Mendocino County and know the areas well. My husband and I have a home in The Keys in Clearlake Oaks and we previously lived in the Kelseyville area. We love living at the lake with our dog Mojo and this is our permanent home.
Knowledgeable About Student’s Attitudes and Experience
After teaching hundreds of students, I know students come to lessons with a variety of attitudes. You might be extremely afraid of driving, even petrified, or you might be a bit nervous yet excited. You may not even want to learn to drive and are taking lessons because your parent(s) or guardian want you to learn. Or you may be a confident experienced driver having driven for several months, even years. I know you may even resent having to take lessons, believing them to be an unnecessary waste of time.
Your experience will also vary. You may have absolutely no experience with driving, you may not even know which peddle is which. Or you may have practiced a small amount, maybe in a parking lot or around your home. Or you may have been driving for short or long periods of time. Your experience may be driving golf carts, go-carts, or even a tractor, which can all help with learning to drive.
No matter what your attitude or experience, I have the patience, understanding, knowledge and background to help you gain the most from your lessons. Even if you have been driving for awhile without lessons, there is always something new to learn. My approach is to make lessons low-keyed and fun.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you learn to drive. I know this is an exciting time for you and your family. Many students and parents look forward to the freedom it gives the student, however, as you know, this can also bring worry to your parents for your safety. I will work hard to help you and your family prepare you for Safe Driving for Life.
Best regards,
Sharon Michaels

Note: My DMV instructors license is #I2037001. I have never had any DUIs. Fortunately, in my time of teaching, I never had any accidents with students. My DMV record is clear of points because I try to practice what I preach/teach. This doesn’t mean I never make any mistakes or do something wrong. I do. But I try to keep the mistakes to a minimum.
